Inflammation of the gums is called Gingivitis. It is the first stage of more serious chronic periodontal disease which can lead to the loss of teeth. It is caused by the accumulation of plaque forming bacteria. The organisms accumulate at the base of the tooth, in the cavity below the gum line and results in irritation and inflammation of the gums.
It is characterised by red, puffy, sensitive gums and bleeding when the teeth are brushed aggressively. Generally Gum Disease can be reversed with good oral hygiene. In mild cases the symptoms may be slight and the patient may not know they have the disease. It should, however be taken seriously and addressed immediately.
The symptoms are a result of bacterial infection causing an immune response. If untreated will lead to destruction of the soft tissue and tooth loss.
Other causes or involvement;
If left untreated the disease can spread and affect tissue, teeth and bones leading to chronic periodontitis.
Several studies have linked gum disease to heart attack, stroke, diabetes, miscarriage and lung disease.
Denta-Med prevents the build-up of plaque and tartar by fighting bacteria. It forms a protective barrier and being water soluble it penetrates the pockets in and around the teeth. It also adheres to the gums, soothing and de-flaming the irritation from infection. Clinical studies show a marked improvement in the Gingival Index in patients suffering intractable Gum Disease in only two weeks usage.
